Thane: The state power distribution company has offered discounts to Sarvajanik Ganpati mandals during the 10-day festival.Officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( MSEDCL ) said, “These connections are offered at a discounted rate of Rs 4.38 per unit and it is a flat rate as it does not increase after 100 units, which usually happen in the case of residential or commercial connections. The commercial rate is more than what is offered to the mandals as it is around Rs 7.28 per unit. Also, it varies if the consumption is more. Due to these discounted rates, it becomes convenient for organisers to take up temporary connection after paying a deposit.”The deposit will later be deducted from the toatal bill at the end of the festival, after the mandals provide a receipt. The mandals can apply for the connections by going to any of the MSEDCL offices. They just need to fill up a form as the process is not online.The authorities have even cautioned the mandals to take precautionary measures in order to avoid mishaps. The officials have asked the organisers to make sure that the wires which they instal must be good enough as they need to bear a lot of load.Also, these wires must not be kept on the decoration or near the passage way where devotees would be standing as it could lead to electrocution. Mandals have even been asked to ensure that the earthing is done and not to put any tape if there is a cut in the wires.The ‘DAMINI squad’ which has been appointed to check for electricity tampering will be taking rounds at various pandals. if anyone is found violating the rules then immediate action will be taken.
