THANE: A month after a college student was killed by her former boyfriend on Eastern Express Highway, a 19-year-old teenager was repeatedly stabbed by her 25-year-old cousin after she rejected his marriage proposal at Samrat Nagar in Mumbra’s Kausa township late on Sunday. The youth subsequently fled from the spot, leaving her in a pool of blood. Despite the grievous injuries, the girl has survived the attack.Police said the girl sustained deep injuries to her abdomen, chest and face and was rushed to the Kalwa municipal hospital where doctors rushed her to the operation theatre and managed to pull her out of danger. Doctors said the girl has suffered eight stab wounds and is currently undergoing treatment.Police said the accused is jobless and a habitual drinker. “The youth proposed marriage to his maternal uncle’s daughter. He used to visit his uncle’s family in Kausa since the past five-six years and was infatuated with his cousin. In the past, too, he had proposed marriage to her but she had firmly turned him down,” said senior inspector Kishor Pasalkar from Mumbra police station.Late on Sunday, when the girl stepped out of her home, the youth waylaid her and once again asked her to marry him. To this, the girl said that any alliance between them was impossible.“He had come prepared for the rejection. He promptly pulled out a sharp knife tucked inside his trouser’s waist and shouted that ‘if you can’t be mine, you cannot marry to anyone else’ and stabbed her in her stomach, face and chest and fled the spot,” said a police officer.The girl shouted for help and within minutes passersby gathered around and summoned her parents and rushed her to the Kalwa civic hospital.Mumbra police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused against whom an offence has been registered under the Indian Penal Code Section 307 for attempt to murder.
