HC slams 4 civic bodies for not removing illegal pandals

The judges observed that despite the revenue officers’ reports, permissions were given to several illegal pandals. Six illegal pandals were given post facto permissions in Kalyan-Dombivli. The court was examining compliance to its August 2016 judgment on illegal pandals, which directed revenue officers to visit the structures before festivals and report to civic bodies.“Now they must be taught a lesson. MUMBAI: The Bombay high court came down heavily on four municipal corporations on Monday for not removing illegal pandals during the just concluded Ganeshotsav.A bench headed by Justice Abhay Oka has asked for names of civic officers in Thane, Ulhasnagar , Kalyan-Dombivli and Bhiwandi-Nizampur who are responsible for issuing contempt of court notices to them on Wednesday. The order is operating for the last two years,” said Justice Oka. The judges observed that despite the revenue officers’ reports, permissions were given to several illegal pandals.
