THANE: A businessman from Kalwa received an extortion call from a man posing to be the gangster Ravi Pujari and allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore.The businessman who is a sub-broker and has an office in Kalwa was getting ransom calls since last one week. The victim then registered a complaint at Kalwa police station on Monday.“In the complaint, the victim mentioned that the caller introduced himself as Ravi Pujari and asked him for ransom. He even threatened to attack him if he does not give the money,” said an officer from Kalwa police station.The crime branch who is also investigating the case confirmed that that person calling is not Ravi Pujari.“The calls which the victim received were internet calls. We checked the voice coming from the calls and realized it does not matche with Ravi Pujari’s calls. So, hence it is someone else who is making the calls under his name. We are checking as to who the caller is,” said Pradeep Sharma, senior inspector at anti extortion cell, crime branch.
