Thane doctor jumps off 12th floor two days before MD entry test

THANE: A 27-year-old MBBS doctor was found dead on the ground floor of a high-rise in Kolshet in Thane. After her mother went out, she went to the kitchen, took a knife and went to the bathroom. She was preparing for the exam scheduled on Monday.Dr Som had studied till 5 am on Saturday. The body was sent for a postmortem at Thane Civil Hospital. Then she then tried to slash her wrists but was unsuccessful after which she went to the balcony and jumped,” said the police officer.An accidental death report has been filed at Kapurbawdi police station.

THANE: A 27-year-old MBBS doctor was found dead on the ground floor of a high-rise in Kolshet in Thane. A preliminary police probe suggested that Dr Sharmishta Som was depressed and jumped off her 12th floor balcony after two failed attempts to knife herself to death around 7am on Saturday.The police have found a note purportedly written by Dr Som, indicating that she was stressed out preparing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Post Graduate exams to get a seat in the MD program.“Initially, we suspected it was murder due to knife injuries on the neck and wrists. But a note confirmed it was suicide and she had tried to slash her throat and wrists with a knife before she leaped out of the balcony,” said Anil Deshmukh, senior police inspector.The Soms live in the 18-storeyed Morning Glory building at Everest World Complex.It is learnt that Dr Som was a bright student, but suffered anxiety bouts about her upcoming exam, which she had unsuccessfully attempted last year. She was preparing for the exam scheduled on Monday.Dr Som had studied till 5 am on Saturday. After her mother went out, she went to the kitchen, took a knife and went to the bathroom. “She used her right-hand to slash her neck but failed. Then she then tried to slash her wrists but was unsuccessful after which she went to the balcony and jumped,” said the police officer.An accidental death report has been filed at Kapurbawdi police station.
