THANE: The Centre is planning to connect the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport with adjoining Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and Vasai, Union minister for road transport & highways, shipping & water resources Nitin Gadkari said at the foundation laying ceremony of two road improvement projects in Thane district on Thursday afternoon.The Mumbai metropolitan region has an over 150km-long shoreline, which has been underutilized. The minister said his department was mulling water routes from neighbouring suburbs to the airport and said a viability and feasibility survey had shown positive results, making it possible to introduce routes even before the airport was ready, using hovercraft , catamarans and seaplanes. The state and central governments have planned several road and railway links to the upcoming facility.
