Govt relief for quake-hit houses in Palghar

MUMBAI: The Palghar collector on Wednesday announced compensation for houses that have got damaged in Dahanu and Talasari talukas ever since tremors hit the district in November last year.Collector Dr Prashant Narnaware said around 1,400 mud and brick houses will be compensated by the state. Narnavare said though no cracks have developed on the dam, they plan to carry out civil work before monsoon. All zilla parishad schools will also be inspected.Authorities have sought Rs 1.82 crore from the state to repair the 52-year-old earthfill (built by compacting successive layers of earth) Daapcheri (Kurje) dam. -Sandhya Nair Houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awaaz Yojana in Dahanu and Talasari will henceforth be earthquake resistant, added Narnaware.The family of Vaibhavi Bhuyal (2), who died after tripping when tremor struck her village Haladpada in Talasari on Friday, will be compensated under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, the collector said.Narnaware told mediapersons a structural audit is being taken up to check for probable cracks in dams, roads, bridges and other structures in Dahanu and Talasari.
