Thane man gets life imprisonment for killing ex-girlfriend

THANE: The sessions court here has sentenced a 23-year-old man from Dombivili to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of brutally killing his girlfriend.The accused, Amar Patil, a resident of Nilje in Dombivili was convicted by district judge Neeta Makhare, who fined him with a sum of Rs 25,000 and held him guilty of the offences punishable under section 302 of the IPC.Prosecutor Vinit Kulkarni told the court that Amar Patil and the victim, Swapnali Gadhi, then aged 18, used to study in the same school and were in a relationship.The accused, prior to the incident had argued with the victim as he had developed relations with another girl and the victim was repeatedly objecting to it.On May 31, 2015 at about 8.15 pm, the accused called the victim below her house and stabbed her with a sharp weapon as many as 27 times and killed her. Later, he went to the police station and informed the police of the crime.The defence counsel contended the prosecution version and maintained that the murder was not pre-planned, but was committed in a fit of rage.The judge, after hearing both sides, noted: “All the circumstances conclusively prove that all links in the chain are so complete that they do not leave any reasonable ground for the conclusion consistent with the hypothesis of the innocence of the accused.”The judge in her order stated, “From the entire circumstantial and direct evidence on record, the prosecution has proved beyond doubt that accused Amar committed murder of Swapnali Ghadi by causing 27 injuries by means of Koyta.”The judge further added, “The accused was possessing sharp-edged Koyta.
