Woman held for beating 3-year-old son, filming act

THANE: A 27-year-old housewife from Mumbra was arrested on Tuesday for beating her three-year-old son and sending a video clip of the act to her former husband. "The couple had divorced just a few months ago and the man was paying the accused a maintenance amount of Rs 6,000, which the accused wanted increased," a police officer said. "He is my son and how can a mother beat her own child mercilessly like this?" The police said the accused, Hina Shaikh, was the second wife of the complainant, Faiyaaz Khan, an autorickshaw cleaner and roadside food vendor. "She beat the child to make a demand for more money.

"She beat the child to make a demand for more money."On February 28, the accused beat the child, videographed the act and sent the clip to Khan's first wife's daughter, who lives with the complainant.The video went viral on social media in the township and Khan lodged a complaint with the local police.Khan said the woman had been beating the child for a long time and this would be confirmed once the medical reports were in.The complainant said he had married Shaikh four years ago and the child wanted to meet him, but she would not allow it."He is my son and how can a mother beat her own child mercilessly like this?" Khan said.The police said the child was being examined medically and they would act in the case in accordance with the orders passed by the juvenile court.The police said that depending on the court orders, they would restore the custody of the child.Senior inspector M S Kad of the Mumbra police station said the accused had been booked and offences under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act had been registered against her with the local police."The custody of child after such an incident would be decided by the court and accordingly the legal course of action shall be followed," the officer said.
