Mumbra cops book Unani medico over botched-up abortion

Mumbra police have registered offences under sections 304A, and 420 of the IPC and also under section 5 of the Medical Abortion Act.
THANE: Mumbra police have booked a woman doctor, who has a degree in Unani medicine, on charges of a botched-up abortion resulting in the death of a woman.According to the police, the accused, Jahida Anwar Hafiz, carried out the abortion on the victim, Salma Shaikh, 34, of Mumbra.
"The deceased's husband, Shabir Shaikh, 34, who works as an AC mechanic, has five children to look after now.
The doctor has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting murder and also for violation of the abortion rules.Inspector RB Valatkar said, "We have issued a notice to the accused doctor and we will record her statement first.
The accused has claimed she did not conduct the abortion.
