Around 22,338 patients were screened in the district.“While there have been no H1N1 patients in Thane rural, Ulhasnagar and Mira-Bhayander, the highest number of H1N1 positive cases were recorded in Thane city . THANE: In the last three months, one person died and 83 were detected H1N1 positive in Thane district As per the records of the Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), out 119 suspected H1N1 patients, 83 were detected positive from January to March 11. Hence, there were no positive cases or any suspected patients in the first three months of 2018. So, they could have got infected,” said Dr. Gauri Rathod from DDHS.“At times patients do not consult a doctor and take self - medication. The authorities said that once they learnt that people were infected with the flu, they immediately started screening sessions in various health centres.

THANE: In the last three months, one person died and 83 were detected H1N1 positive in Thane district As per the records of the Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), out 119 suspected H1N1 patients, 83 were detected positive from January to March 11. The authorities said that once they learnt that people were infected with the flu, they immediately started screening sessions in various health centres. Around 22,338 patients were screened in the district.“While there have been no H1N1 patients in Thane rural, Ulhasnagar and Mira-Bhayander, the highest number of H1N1 positive cases were recorded in Thane city . Most of the patients who suffered from the virus were from Ghodbunder Road. People from Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander tend to travel to the outskirts of the city for job-related work or other meetings. So, they could have got infected,” said Dr. Gauri Rathod from DDHS.“At times patients do not consult a doctor and take self - medication. They are unable to identify the symptoms of the disease and so do not take proper medication. This makes the patient more weak and affects their health further. If the patient comes to the doctor late for treatment then the organisms start destroying the lungs, which deteriorates the patient’s health further,” said Dr. Rathod. It was also seen that as compared to the previous year (January till March 12), this year there were more H1N1 cases. But the screening was less by over 100 per cent, which was because the virus had not affected people, stated the authorities. Also, another factor for this was that by the end of 2017 the health department had brought in vaccinations, which people were taking.“It was seen that last year, due to the change in climatic conditions in monsoon , the H1N1 virus hit the patients and people started getting infected. Hence, there were no positive cases or any suspected patients in the first three months of 2018. While, this year during winter, the weather was cooler as compared to last year and which helped the virus to be in the atmosphere,” added Dr. Rathod.
