Vasai cop in ACB net for Rs 25,000 bribe

The complainant claimed he had paid the money to Baig at around 11.28 pm when he was allegedly caught red-handed. The complainant agreed to pay the first instalment on Tuesday.A trap was laid at the police station. MUMBAI: An assistant inspector of Manickpur police station in Vasai was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe from a complainant who had filed a non-cognisable offence against a woman who, he claimed, had been harassing him.Assistant police inspector Asif Baig (38) allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant after threatening to make the woman file a cross-complaint against him.The complainant approached officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau ( ACB ) in Thane on Monday, alleging that-Baig was threatening to implicate him in a false case.
