New Uran-Nerul corridor eats into NMMT earnings

NAVI MUMBAI: The new Nerul-Belapur-Uran route started by Central Railway has cut into the revenue earnings of NMMT by around 45%. The commissioning of the phase II of Uran corridor will further help commuters to get connected with suburban services on the harbour and transharbour route for South Bombay and Thane.’’ Bamandongri, which is centrally located in Ulwe node has more commuters.NMMT GM, Shirish Aradwad observed, `` yes, commuters have decreased and we have lost revenue. We have reduced the fleet from Ulwe.’’Senior PRO, CR, A K Jain said, “the train service will only get more popular with time. Train ticket fare Rs 5 (common for both Nerul and Belapur from the two new stations) is a minimum three times less, while the first -class monthly pass is a big saving for commuters from both the stations on the new corridor.
