Three arrested for possessing counterfeit notes in Mumbra

THANE: The police has arrested three persons and has seized counterfeit currency notes in the denomination of Rs. THANE: The police has arrested three persons and has seized counterfeit currency notes in the denomination of Rs. 2,000 to the tune of Rs 15.7 lakh in Mumbra The accused have been identified as Jaun Chunnulal (41), Mohammad Sharajuddin (26)— both residents of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh— and Javed Ansari (30), a reisdent of Mumbra. While Jainkumar worked as a sweeper, Mohammad worked as a compounder in an ayurvedic clinic and Javed worked for a bakery.Ramesh Dhumal, assistant police commissioner, said that the police officials had received a tip-off that the accused were going to arrive at Kismat Colony with the counterfeit notes. The cops laid a trap and as soon as they spotted the trio with a bag at 4.40am, they intercepted them. On searching their bag, the cops found 788 notes packed in six packs.Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo from UP had procured the notes. They had payed a tantrik from Asansol in West Bengal Rs 3.50 lakh for the notes. The accused were supposed to give them off to the third accused from Mumbra. But before they could do that, the police nabbed them, Dhumal said.As the code of conduct has been enforced for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the police are examining if there is any linkage with this, Dhumal said.The trio have been booked under various sections of the Indian Pencal Code.
