THANE: The campaign started by the Thane police to trace missing kids has kicked off on a good note as the cops have managed to reunite 60 children with their families in the last 15 days. The campaign, called Operation Muskan, was flagged off by the Thane police`s Child Protection Unit (CPU), led by police inspector Madan Ballal, two weeks ago. The kids were either found to be loitering around on the road or at the Bhiwandi correction home.

Besides this, the CPU also rescued 18 kids who were made to work in small manufacturing units across the city.

"We had formed several teams to track down the parents of the children. We were also checking the identity of students found begging on the street and who were wandering along the railway station.

Teams were also deployed to rescue child labourers. Also, cops were fanned out across the state to check on any missing children," Ballal told TOI.
