Mum-Thane Metro depot: Contracter appointed

Thane: The crucial Metro 4 and 4A project connecting Mumbai with Thane and its suburbs moved a step ahead after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) appointed contractors for depot construction at Mogharpada, Ghodbunder Road, along with laying of tracks on the route between Mulund and Thane, officials said on Tuesday. The works on Metro 4 and 4A projects are progressing well, and a delay in finalising the car shed had raised fears that the projects completion schedule would be affected. The state cabinet had earlier this month, approved 170Ha of government land at Mogharpada of which around 42.2Ha will be used for constructing car sheds for metro lines.Metropolitan commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said the Rs 905-crore bid by SEW-VSE (JV) L1 was selected as it was the lowest. The depot will have 64 stabling lines (32 for present and rest as future provision) 10 inspection bay lines and workshop lines each, in addition to an operational control centre, administrative building, maintenance and workshop building, auxiliary substation, staff quarters, among others.Officials said that Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. had been appointed for laying a ballastless railway track at a cost of Rs 121 crore to connect Mulund fire station with the Gaimukh metro station and Mogharpada depot on Metro 4 route. The Mumbai Metro Routes 4 and 4A are vital transportation links connecting two major cities in the Metropolitan Region, and significant progress is being made in the construction of these lines. The underground cable is obstructing the construction of a 4km double-decker elevated line, causing a potential delay of six months. The line is part of a larger project scheduled to be completed in 2025. The project is already facing challenges due to the need for large cranes to install concrete segments. Line 2A is 18.589 KM long with 17 stations, while Line 7 is 16.495 KM long with 14 stations.
