Police arrest CA, one other for siphoning 25cr

Thane: The Thane cyber crime branch arrested a Chartered Accountant (CA) and one other person in the payment gateway firm by hacking into it in which Rs 25 crore was siphoned. The duo aided the primary accused to route money hacked to various countries like China, Hong Kong and Singapore.The accused CA is a resident of Vashi and the other accused is a Kandivli resident and has an import export business.A total of 11 accused have been arrested in the case, the police said. The police said that they zeroed in on the role of CA while investigating the case and it was found that the accused had aided the primary accused in the scam.A police officer explained, There is a process to transfer money abroad and the CA has made as many as 365, 15CB certificates for the accused. These 15 CB certificates are issued by chartered accounts under the Income Tax Act for making payments to non-residents or foreign companies. Probe revealed that the CA did not comply with the requirements to issue 15 CB certificates and thus helped the primary accused.The officer said that the CA has been accused of actively participating in the scam and that he used his expertise in routing the money abroad. A police officer said the probe is very vast and they are minutely analysing the details of all the transactions and other people who are involved in the racket which has nationwide links as well as abroad.The police said that they had initiated a probe after an unidentified person hacked the software of a payment gateway company and siphoned Rs 25 crore. The body was sent for post-mortem.Industrialist kidnapping case: Cross firing between Ludhiana police and accused in Tibba areaCross fires occurred between Ludhiana police and two absconding accused in the kidnapping and ransom case of hosiery industrialist Sambhav Jain. The police were tracing the accused and engaged in an encounter near Tibba road. Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed the development and stated that four accused have already been apprehended. The encounter is ongoing and the Commissioner is on his way to the location.
