7 vehicles burnt in trio’s revenge over WhatsApp fight, 2 held

Thane: Two residents of Siddeshwar Nagar were arrested for setting ablaze six motorcycles and one rickshaw over a petty fight they had with a fellow resident at Nitin company during the wee hours of SundayThe incident occurred around 3:30am when a trio tried to take revenge over an old tiff they had with one Vinod Patekar. The fight was triggered owing to a conversation they had over a WhatsApp group."The trio, Rohan Sawant, Himanshu Sawant and Onkar Bhosle, were members of a WhatsApp group among other residents of their area. A few members of the group were allegedly bad mouthing Patekar, who resides in an adjacent slum as he was not part of the group. Patekar, who came to know about the group conversation went over to meet the trio and threatened them. The trio was angry over being threatened. The issue also got aggravated after they saw that one of their bikes was fiddled with and assumed that Patekar was responsible for it," said D S Swami, deputy commissioner of police of zone-1.The trio then decided that they would damage Patker's bike to teach him a lesson. DCP Swami added, "On Saturday night, the trio was drunk and under the influence of alcohol set Patekar's bike on fire. The bike was parked on the service road near Nitin Company. "As the fire spread, vehicles parked near the bike also caught fire. The three youths fled the scene on a motorcycle and this was recorded in a CCTV camera. The trio had gone for a picnic to Khopoli and were caught while they were on their way back on Sunday evening from Kalwa bridge," said Swami.The police claimed that while they have arrested two, they are still looking out for Bhosle, a history-sheeter.The trio intended on burning a one bike but as other vehicles were parked next to it, seven vehicles were charredThe youths took the step as revenge over a conversation on WhatsAppThey were caught on their way back from a picnic on Sunday
