more-in Fifteen students and a teacher had a miraculous escape, with minor injuries, after the driver of the school bus in which they were travelling in, lost control of the vehicle and its fell into a stream 15 feet below the road at Mamom on Wednesday afternoon. The bus belonging to the Saraswati Vidyaniketan School fell into the stream while negotiating a steep slope between the Mamom Temple and the old bridge. The school bus had 37 students and two teachers. It had taken a route different from that which it regularly plies on, due to maintenance work on the other road. According to the police, the driver had asked the senior students to get down and walk up on foot, before driving up the steep slope. The absence of a boundary wall along the steep road led to the accident. Four of the students and one teacher suffered injuries and were taken to the Chirayinkeezh Taluk Hospital. The police will request the Regional Transport Office officials to check whether the vehicle was fit to be used as a school bus.
