more-in The district administration will organise a Coastal Sports League with an aim to developing an interest in sports among the youth in these regions, District Collector K. Vasuki has said. As part of the league, football, and beach volleyball competitions for boys up to 18 years of age and badminton and beach volleyball competitions for girls will be organised. The zonal matches will be held after dividing the fishing villages into six zones. The zonal winners will compete at the district level. The Collector was speaking at a meeting to discuss the organising of the sports league here on Friday. The league will be held in April and May in co-operation with the Sports Council, Youth Welfare Board, Fisheries Department and various youth and voluntary organisations. Area-based committees will be formed under the aegis of the Fisheries Department before April 10 to organise the competitions. Swimming contest Two members of the five-member core committee will be women. As part of the campaign to popularise the league, a swimming competition will be held in the sea for fish workers aged under 30 years.
