THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has allocated Rs 234.38 crores as first installment of non-road maintenance fund for 2018-19 to local bodies. An amount of Rs 546.9 crores has been allocated as first installment for road maintenance fund to local bodies in the state.Gram panchayats in the state will receive a total of Rs 443.45 crores inclusive of funds for road and non-road maintenance works. Block panchayats are set to receive an amount of Rs 25.24 crores including funds for road and non-road maintenance. District panchayats in the state will be allotted Rs 166.04 crores as funds for road and non-road maintenance. An amount of Rs 86.01 crores will be allotted to municipalities as first instalment of road and non-road maintenance fund.Six municipal corporations in the state will receive a first instalment of Rs 60.53 crores. An amount of Rs 781.29 crores will be given to local bodies as first instalment for road and non-road maintenance fund. This amount can be spent for 2017-18 spill over works. Local bodies have reported that there were more bills pending than the total amount due for 2017-18 allocated as maintenance fund.Fund for road and non-road maintenance are distributed to local bodies in three installments. The state government has allotted Rs 2343.88 crores as funds for road and non-road maintenance for 2018-19.
