Although Sruthy Sasidharan is a couple of songs old in Mollywood, most people now promptly recognise her with the honeyed voice behind the recent tuneful romantic song Kaadhale… from upcoming Tovino Thomas-starrer Maradona. Kudos to Sushin, Vinayak, Abin Paul (mixing and mastering) and Sumesh Parameswarr (the guitarist) for making the song beautiful,” she adds. I grew up listening to a lot of classical music,” says Sruthy, who considers M.S. Sruthy has also lent her voice for background scoring for Mohanlal, Njandukalude Nattiloridavela, Kalyanam, Alamara, Masterpiece to name the pick of the lot. It all began when a mutual friend made Sushin Shyam, Maradona’s music composer, listen to one of Sruthy’s earlier tracks.

Music is in her name. Although Sruthy Sasidharan is a couple of songs old in Mollywood, most people now promptly recognise her with the honeyed voice behind the recent tuneful romantic song Kaadhale… from upcoming Tovino Thomas-starrer Maradona. It all began when a mutual friend made Sushin Shyam, Maradona’s music composer, listen to one of Sruthy’s earlier tracks. “He (Sushin) then called me to check if Kaadhale… suited me. We recorded the song pretty quickly. Vishnu (Narayan) chettan, the director, and others in the crew readily gave the thumbs-up and the song was finalised,” says the 25-year-old over phone from Kochi. Kaadhale…, penned by Vinayak Sasikumar, sensuously captures the blossoming of a romantic relationship and Sruthy has a word of praise for the crew who helped her ease into the number. “It was a great experience working with Sushin. He is very calm and patient and makes sure he gets the best out of the artiste. However, I never expected the song to become such a hit. Kudos to Sushin, Vinayak, Abin Paul (mixing and mastering) and Sumesh Parameswarr (the guitarist) for making the song beautiful,” she adds. Born in Kozhikode and settled in Manjeri, Malappuram, Sruthy, who studied engineering in Thiruvananthapuram, quit her job with an IT firm to pursue her passion for music. The resolution has paid rich dividends and Sruthy now splits her time between Kochi and Chennai “depending on my recordings.” But her tryst with music goes back as early as when she was only three. “My parents too are music lovers and they enrolled me in a classical music class when I was really young. I grew up listening to a lot of classical music,” says Sruthy, who considers M.S. Subbulakshmi and M. Balamuralikrishna as her two big inspirations. Her budding discography includes Mayilla Njan… from Queen and Kiya Kiya… from Akasha Mittayi. Sruthy has also lent her voice for background scoring for Mohanlal, Njandukalude Nattiloridavela, Kalyanam, Alamara, Masterpiece to name the pick of the lot. Other languages Having tasted success in Mollywood, opportunities in other languages have now come in thick and fast for the young crooner. “I’m awaiting the release of a song in upcoming Tamil movie Dha Dha 87 and a few others in a couple of unnamed projects in Tamil,” Sruthy says, adding that in a short span of time, she has also sung for upcoming movies in Kannada and Marathi, while projects in Telugu are ongoing. However, her achievements do not stop at films as Sruthy has also crooned for advertisements of some popular brands in Malayalam as well as Tamil. So, when not holding the microphone, what keeps her ticking? “I also love painting and playing the violin. In my free time, I enjoy cooking too,” she says. Does she fancy a role in front of the camera? “I don’t think I’ll do justice to it.”
