Anchal case: Magistrate records statement of complainant

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major development in the assault case involving Pathanapuram MLA KB Ganesh Kumar, one of the complainant appeared before a local magistrate on Saturday and gave her sworn statement. When this was pointed out, Kumar and his driver got out of the car and snatched their car key. The complainant, Sheena, gave her statement before the judicial first class magistrate at Chavara under provisions of CrPC Section 164.Sheena and her son Ananthakrishnan (22) were allegedly assaulted by the MLA and his driver at Agasthyacode near Anchal on Thursday noon in an alleged case of road rage.Sheena appeared before the magistrate around 2.20pm and exited the courtroom by 3.05pm. He refused further comments. The driver physically assaulted her son, who stepped out of the car to retrieve the key.The MLA verbally abused her, pushed her down and threatened her with dire consequences when she tried to intervene and save her son.

She told reporters outside the courtroom that she stood by the complaint filed at Anchal police station.She refused further comments to maintain the confidentiality of the sworn statement.She had alleged that after their cars came face to face on a narrow road at Agasthyacode, the MLA had forced them to move back and clear his path though it was more convenient for his car to do the same. When this was pointed out, Kumar and his driver got out of the car and snatched their car key. The driver physically assaulted her son, who stepped out of the car to retrieve the key.The MLA verbally abused her, pushed her down and threatened her with dire consequences when she tried to intervene and save her son. Ananthakrishnan was hospitalized with injuries following the incident.Anchal police had registered a case against Kumar and his driver based on their complaint.But, despite Sheena mentioned in her statement that she too faced physical assault in a public place, the police did not invoke relevant section of outraging the modesty of woman.The police went on to register a case against Ananthakrishnan for attacking the MLA using weapons after Kumar filed a complaint stating that the youth had attacked him using a lever.Meanwhile, breaking his silence on the issue, Kumar told reporters that allegations were common in politics. He refused further comments.
