Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Subjugation and indiscipline’ have no place in state police force and those who violate this principle will invite strict action , said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the assembly on Monday. Vijayan’s statement comes after ADGP Sudesh Kumar, who landed in a controversy after his daughter allegedly assaulted his driver, was removed from the post of chief of Battalions last week.“We won’t allow police personnel to do menial work for senior officers. Indiscipline and menial work have no place in the force. The practice of senior officers misusing the service of police constables for their personal and family needs has been prevalent for a long time. It’s a remnant from the colonial era that cannot be continued. Instructions have been given to find whether policemen are used for personal and family needs of senior officers. Such practices will be eliminated,” he said.Vijayan was replying to a submission raised by MLA KS Sabarinadhan, demanding a speedy investigation into the complaint that ADGP Kumar’s driver A Gavaskar was injured in the attack. A case was registered on June 14 against the ADGP’s daughter based on Gavaskar’s complaint that the officer’s daughter attacked him and obstructed his duty. Another case was registered against Gavaskar based on a complaint by the ADGP’s daughter.“Gavaskar's wife and family members had voiced their concerns and submitted a memorandum. I told them that the complaint will be taken seriously and action will be taken. Crime branch ADGP is investigating both cases. ADGP Kumar, accused of misusing his powers, has been stripped off his official charges. There won’t be any delay in the investigation,” he told Sabarinadhan, when the MLA wanted the government to handover the probe to a special investigation team.“State government won’t give credence to activities that violate human rights . At the same time, nobody will be allowed to use human rights as a shield for violation of discipline in the force. The government has a balanced approach and action will be taken against any officer who violates the instructions of the police chief and government,” Vijayan said.Meanwhile, the time given by state police chief to officers to send back the camp followers retained by them ended on Monday evening. Most officers complied with the directive and sent back attached officers to parent units. “Misuse of policemen and camp followers is unacceptable. Criminal action will be initiated against the ADGP’s daughter if the complaint she filed is proved baseless,” said DGP Loknath Behera.
