Transfer of corporation secretary snowballs into a controversy

Thiruvananthapuram: The order issued by local self-government department transferring corporation secretary L S Deepa to Thrissur is snowballing into a controversy.Mayor V K Prasanth has directed Deepa not to relieve of official duties a day after the order was received at the corporation office. Though corporation secretary had wanted the additional secretary to attend the interview process, Deepa received communication from the office of mayor to take part in the interview and not to delegate duties.The uncertainty over the transfer order has ruffled the LSG department , which has been taken aback by the sudden backlash over the transfer order.The ruling council of the corporation is hoping for an amended order in the coming days. The official in question had drafted the order and forwarded it for minister's approval earlier.Prasanth had met chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday and placed a request to retain Deepa. It is learnt that some senior CPM leaders and a CPM minister had expressed dissent over the transfer order which reportedly has been issued at the behest of a senior LSG dept official.Deepa was directed to carry on with her official duties as usual on Tuesday and she also attended the interview held for vacancies in Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd. Sources said that a senior CPM minister had directly asked LSG minister K T Jaleel to put the order on hold, but the order was issued on Monday much to the displeasure of senior CPM leaders.Prasanth along with the heads of standing committees had already held meetings with CPM top brass after it was known that the order to transfer Deepa apparently owing to her stringent insistence on environmental norms and building rules was imminent.Deepa was instrumental in initiating various initiatives in city corporation like Clean Killiyaar Mission, regulations for septic waste carriers and for revamping tax collection in the city and steps to switch to the new tax regime.The order which was issued on Monday is dated June 14 and it had been on hold for more than a week.
