Sudhakaran has said.The government has been able to end the stalemate that was prevailing in the infrastructure sector over the years with the key capital projects getting KIIFB assistance, the Minister said while inaugurating a three-day international conference on ‘Infrastructure development: Issues, innovation & the way forward’ that began here on Thursday. Good roads World class roads are needed for development and KIIFB has come to the rescue of the PWD that has been given KIIFB-funded projects totalling to ?25,000 crore. “This has come as a big relief for PWD as it did not have adequate budgetary support for capital projects,” he said. The Public Works Minister said the government had not shelved Light Metro Project for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode cities. The commencement of works for the three flyovers in the capital is ample testimony that the government is for the light metro. The light metro works will commence once the Centre gives the nod, he added. Chairing the session, the CEO of KIIFB, K. M. Abraham said funding capital projects was a bold experiment after KIIFB got the new avatar. Quality will not be compromised and legal provision of setting up an Inspection Authority in the KIIFB Act will come in handy for assuring quality ,” he said, adding visible change is seen on roads. An exhibition of KIIFB equipments is on as part of the conference organised in association with Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology.
