Technopark firms to join hands with Thettiyar Mission

“Technopark takes up periodical initiatives to clean Thettiyar within its campus. The district administration has also decided to take steps to clear encroachments on the banks of Thettiyar. “There will be a follow-up meeting after two weeks,” the officials said.Representatives of Technopark said that only preliminary-level discussions were held on Monday. An action plan will be formulated only in future meetings,” sources said.The Thettiyar Sahajeevan Swaraj was a people’s collective which took up the campaign to clean the stream.

Thiruvananthapuram: Seeking the support of IT firms of Technopark, tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran convened a meeting to discuss the rejuvenation of Thettiyar , a stream which passes through the Technopark campus.Representatives, including CEOs of around 25 companies attended the meeting which was presided over by the minister on Monday.Discussions were held on ways to revive the polluted stream, which was originally launched by a people’s collective under Thettiyar Sahajeevan Swaraj. District collector K Vasuki, Technopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair, CEOs and CSR heads of various companies and representatives of TSS attended the meeting. The minister convened the meeting to seek the support of Technopark companies to clean Thettiyar.Sources said that a decision on convening a meeting of employees of Technopark and to take a pledge to create awareness among them on protecting the stream was taken. “Technopark takes up periodical initiatives to clean Thettiyar within its campus. However, it was discussed that it would be effective only if steps are taken to clean other parts of the stream. October 2 will be observed as a day to clean the stream. Support of firms of Technopark was sought for it,” sources said.Representatives who attended the meeting said that discussions on utilizing CSR funds of the companies for cleaning works were also discussed. “There will be a follow-up meeting after two weeks,” the officials said.Representatives of Technopark said that only preliminary-level discussions were held on Monday. “Various discussions to rejuvenate Thettiyar came up for discussion. An action plan will be formulated only in future meetings,” sources said.The Thettiyar Sahajeevan Swaraj was a people’s collective which took up the campaign to clean the stream. It reached a new level when the minister intervened for the cleaning of Thettiyar.A preliminary survey was conducted by students of CET to assess the pollution and to identify sources of pollution. The students also conducted a household survey to assess the modes used by houses to manage waste, including sewage. The report of the pilot study was assessed by district collector and minister last week. The CET has been asked to conduct the remaining survey. The district administration has also decided to take steps to clear encroachments on the banks of Thettiyar.
