Kannanthanam to coordinate relief operations

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union minister of state for tourism Alphons J Kannanthanam reached the capital on Thursday to coordinate relief operations between state and the Centre. The prime minister has directed him to coordinate rescue operations.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all possible help from the Centre to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan during their telephonic conversation on Thursday morning. Modi assured the chief minister that he would rush Kannanthanam to coordinate rescue and relief operations in state.Meanwhile, the Union cabinet secretary convened a meeting of national crisis management committee (NCMC) in New Delhi to ensure continued and scaled up assistance to Kerala in view of the prevailing flood situation. He will be meeting authorities concerned to assess the overall flood situation in Kerala and join the working team at the disaster management control room in Secretariat. On the instructions of the Prime Minister, cabinet secretary PK Sinha chaired a meeting in which secretaries of central ministries – including defence, home, water resources– and chiefs of Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard (CG), national disaster response force (NDRF), central water commission (CWC) and other senior officers were present.
