The three juveniles were aged, 14, 15 and 16.

The police have also seized three two-wheelers, which the gang had allegedly stolen and hidden in various spots at Punnackamugal.The police said that the three juveniles involved in the case were habitual offenders, being detained by the police for the same crime three months ago.“All the youths were drug addicts and they stole vehicles to raise money to buy ganja ,” said Poojapura sub-inspector D Girilal. They roamed around in the night and would steal vehicles parked inside residential compounds.The SI added that all the youths hailed from financially weak families and with no strict parenting. The police have reached out to the families to assist them in the rehabilitation of the children.“I have directed the parents of the children to meet city police control room assistant commissioner V Suresh Kumar, who leads the initiative of rehabilitating youths suffering from substance addiction,” the SI said. The AC and his team had helped numerous youths and even adults in undergoing de-addiction process successfully, he said.“We have facilities run by the state government which would help rehabilitate these kids. We are also thinking of possibilities of enrolling these kids to boarding schools. A change in their current living circumstances may help them leave their old ways,” control room assistant commissioner Suresh Kumar said, adding that the parents of the children were yet to visit him.
