more-in The Director of the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has filed a police complaint about a job fraud in the name of NURDS, an institution that is yet to come into existence. Social Justice Special Secretary Biju Prabhakar said the action came in the wake of documents submitted by a woman from Balaramapuram who was allegedly hoodwinked. The job fraud was perpetrated using letterheads of Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and of the Chennai-based National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Mr. Prabhakar said. The woman had received a letter ostensibly from the NIEPMD asking her to appear for an interview for the post of administrative officer at the NURDS office at Akkulam at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday. However, when she reached the location of the interview, she realised that there was no such establishment. NURDS is the name that NISH was to assume when taken over by the Union government. Duped The woman alleged that she was duped of ?5 lakh by a person from Neyyattinkara who promised her the job. The middleman was ready to return the money and she had no complaints, the woman said. However, Mr. Prabhakar directed the NISH Director to file a complaint so as to prevent more persons from being cheated in the name of NURDS.
