Centre’s decision against upgrading NISH flayed

The Union government’s failure to keep its word on making the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) a Central university is condemnable, Minister for Social Justice K.K. After all these, going back on the decision was tantamount to neglecting the State, she said. After Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot promised to make it a Central university in 2015, the State government had handed over a letter ceding control over the institute. The decision, coming hard on the heels of the Union government’s failure to fulfil its promise of setting up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the State, could not be justified, Ms. Shylaja said, urging the Union government to reconsider the decision. It was included in the Union budget for 2015-16 too.
