THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala-based startup 'Ilove9months' founded by three women entrepreneurs has launched 'Sahodari', a service that provides trained birth companions for pregnant women.The three women entrepreneurs Suma Ajith, Ganga Raj, and Anjali Raj from Kerala had launched a pregnancy wellness app last year. "Mothers will be taken care of not just clinically but also emotionally.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala-based startup 'Ilove9months' founded by three women entrepreneurs has launched 'Sahodari', a service that provides trained birth companions for pregnant women.The three women entrepreneurs Suma Ajith, Ganga Raj, and Anjali Raj from Kerala had launched a pregnancy wellness app last year."Now, world has come to a situation where all are running out of time and wish all had more than 24 hours a day.Smaller families, working couples, couples living apart due to job locations have become a norm. In such scenario, it is essential to offer a support system for the mother throughout her pregnancy. Women trained as birth companions or Sahodaris will play the role of emotionally supporting pregnant women on her journey to motherhood.They will help in choosing right physical exercises, hospital visits, labour support, breastfeeding and postpartum care," said Anjali Raj. "Mothers will be taken care of not just clinically but also emotionally. The husband living far away can be at peace knowing that there is a well-trained person taking care of his wife. Lack of awareness and knowledge leads to panic and worry for the mother and baby during pregnancy," she added.Ilove9months has also plans to launch breast-feeding pods in offices. "They are mini-rooms with basic amenities for lactating mothers. We have rolled out Sahodari with four trained companions in Thiruvananthapuram . A formal launch will happen in three months," she said.
