more-in Many people were hammering, sawing, and grinding away in their efforts to repair several pieces of furniture collected at the Rotary Towers in Kumarapuram. The place has been buzzing with activity for the past few days as the workers help get the flood-affected residents of Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta back on their feet. Sofas, chairs, beds, and dining tables are being refurbished as part of ‘Mission New Life’ project, spearheaded by Rotary International District 3211, to support those who lost their belongings in the flood. The initiative is being supported by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID). The drive is also on at the Regional Institute of Engineering, Perunthanni. Project chairman R. Reghunath said the endeavour was conceived during the relief efforts undertaken by the members of Rotary clubs in the flood-affected areas, including Mannar, Chengannur, and Pandanad. A collection drive that was organised on Manaveeyam Veedhi two weeks ago witnessed several people contributing used furniture and electrical appliances in huge numbers. The refurbished items will be given away to the affected families in Changanassery on October 13.
