Thiruvananthapuram: A notice by a KSRTC employee, which is being circulated in the social media, reads, “A request to KSRTC passengers. The earnings of this bus is less than Rs 6,000. The service will have to be cancelled, if the collection does not improve within a week. So, we request you to avoid traveling in parallel services”.With around 20 notices pasted on buses with low earnings, a campaign against parallel services has been launched by a KSRTC employee of Venjaramoodu depot. The employee, who preferred anonymity, claimed that parallel services have become a threat to KSRTC buses in the region, especially to services operated in the byroads.“We suffer a loss of nearly Rs one lakh daily due to these parallel services. Awareness among passengers is the only way to improve the fare collection and continue services,” said the KSRTC employee. The campaign comes in the wake of cancellation and revision of loss-making services in KSRTC. Venjaramoodu depot operates a total of 57 buses in 60 schedules. And according to the KSRTC staff, there are more than 10 bus routes under the depot which generate less than Rs 6,000 per day.“The depot earns an average revenue of Rs 6.5 lakh per day, which can be increased to Rs 7 lakh if the movement of parallel services is controlled. Most affected bus services are those running in routes including Muthuvila and Nellanad. Because of some people, the regular passengers traveling in KSRTC buses are affected,” he added.
