Kerala floods: Cleaning drive in Thiruvananthapuram from Sept 25 to Oct 2

On November 1, all local bodies will declare compliance with the Green protocol.The drive aims at epidemic prevention and conservation of water. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All local bodies in the district will take part in an intensive cleaning drive from September 25 to October 2 as part of post-flood cleaning mission.The drive is being organised by Haritha Keralam mission, district planning committee, Suchitwa Mission and central government's Swachatha Hi Seva scheme. This will be done by local bodies, health department, Kudumbasree, Asha workers, employment guarantee scheme workers and volunteers. Waste in water bodies will be segregated and handed over on September 25 by rural employment guarantee scheme workers.Local-level action committees will meet on September 26 and will executed ward-level cleaning. District collector K Vasuki said that the district administration is preparing an action plan to combat drought in the district.

A calendar of activity for each day has been prepared by Haritha Keralam mission. Waste in water bodies will be segregated and handed over on September 25 by rural employment guarantee scheme workers.Local-level action committees will meet on September 26 and will executed ward-level cleaning. Special assembly will be held in schools on September 27 and messages on processing bio-degradable and non-bio degradable waste will be disseminated in houses and neighbouring houses.Public markets, public places, canals and public wells will be cleaned on September 28 and 29. This will be done by local bodies, health department, Kudumbasree, Asha workers, employment guarantee scheme workers and volunteers. Houses and surroundings will be cleaned on September 30 by school students, volunteers, ward level sanitation committee and dry day will be observed.Anganwadis, health centres and public institutions will be cleaned on October 1.Green protocol seminar will be held on October 2. District panchayat president VK Madhu said that the climate change following the flood has to be countered by cleaning activities and water conservation and he called for the co-operation of all local bodies. District collector K Vasuki said that the district administration is preparing an action plan to combat drought in the district.
