Kerala govt to handover Rs 50 lakh to Nambi Narayanan today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will handover the Rs 50 lakh compensation to former Isro scientist Nambi Narayanan as directed by the Supreme Court in the espionage case. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan is expected to handover the compensation amount at Secretariat durbar hall hereHowever, Narayanan will go ahead with the civil suit filed before the sub court, Thiruvananthapuram , seeking Rs 1 crore in compensation. The Supreme Court had held that Narayanan was free to pursue the case and clarified that the Rs 50 lakh compensation would be separate from the Rs 1-crore defamation suit.A three-member committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge D K Jain, will inquire into the conspiracy behind the spy case, that dates back to 1994, and the role of the police officers involved.
