SFI sweeps seats in college union elections

KSU lost the student union of Mangalapuram St Xavier’s College to SFI.In the elections held in Pathanamthitta, SFI won elections in all three colleges. Thiruvananthapuram: SFI clinched a sweeping victory in elections held at various colleges affiliated to University of Kerala , here on Tuesday.Among elections held in 64 colleges, SFI won 62 student unions.The student wing of the CPM won unopposed in several colleges, including University College, Arts College, Sanskrit College, Government College Kariavattom, Kattakkada Christian College and Music College. SFI won all seats in Pandalam NSS College and St Cyril College. In Alappuzha also, SFI won elections in all 12 colleges. Here too violence occurred when SFI activists were taking out victory march.

SFI won all seats in Pandalam NSS College and St Cyril College. In Alappuzha also, SFI won elections in all 12 colleges. In Kollam, SFI won in 17 of 18 colleges where elections were held.Meanwhile, untoward incidents were reported at different places on Tuesday during victory celebrations by SFI activists after college union election results were announced.Mannanthala police registered a case against a group of students of Mar Ivanios College at Nalanchira after they attacked six policemen, including Mannanthala sub-inspector Krishnalal.All the students booked are activists of SFI, the police said. According to the police, the incident occurred around 4.30pm inside the campus during the jubilation march taken out by the SFI activists.Trouble started when SFI activists taking part in the march spotted a few members of KSU. They charged to attack them and the cops deployed inside the campus intervened to prevent the attack. This was when the cops were hurt. Besides the SI, the rest of the cops were attached to City Armed Reserve Camp. One of them even suffered a fracture on his shoulder in the attack.Mar Ivanios College management has declared that there will be no classes on Wednesday in view of the tense situation prevailing there.Another clash was reported under Pangode police station limits, outside the campus of Mannaniya College of Arts and Science. Here too, clash occurred when members of SFI, who won the election, were celebrating outside the college.A scuffle that broke out between SFI and KSU activists turned ugly when local politicians too entered the fray. The police intervened promptly and prevented further violence. A similar minor clash was reported under Aruvikkara police station limits too.A minor clash broke out at National College under Fort police station limits too. Here too violence occurred when SFI activists were taking out victory march. However, the police have not registered any case in this regard.
