KOLLAM: KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran reiterated on Saturday that Congress party would always support devotees on the Sabarimala controversy.He added that his party was following the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru who stood by people's faith despite being an atheist."Guruvayur and Vaikom satyagrahas were led by Congress leaders like K Kelappan, KP Kesava Menon TK Madhavan and Mannathu Padmanabhan. We fought social evil and now we are standing to protect faith," he said, adding that tantri and other religious figures have the final say in issues related to rituals.Ramachandran also added that Congress was not against gender equality. "We respect gender equality. But how many real devotees will go to Sabarimala breaking customs? We don't want to make it a tourist destination. Be it a temple or mosque, the decision should be taken without hurting sentiments of devotees," he said.
