THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state committee that met here on Saturday approved a detailed plan for defending the 'campaign of lies' unleashed by the Congress and Sangh Parivar forces in the Sabarimala issue The counter campaign will make efforts to sensitise party members, clear doubts among the families of party members and fellow travellers and to give convincing answers to questions posed by opponents in the public. The CPM is of the view that the political game played by Congress will be suicidal. They are also cautious about the strategy of BJP to reap dividents by playing divisive politics in the issue. The CPM plan would complement the campaign planned by the LDF. The mass convention of LDF scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday when the BJP-led long march from Pandalam concludes here will have a participation of 50,000 people. The CPM state committee asked the district committee to arrange maximum number of women from party families to attend the convention which will be inaugurated by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Similar conventions will be held in Kollam and Pathanamthitta too.The party will convene general body meetings under area committees to be attended by all party members. There will be separate meetings of office bearers up to branch secretary-level in all districts to explain party's stand in the issue."There is confusion even among party workers. We need to clear the air within the house first," said a CPM leader. Family get-togethers in which leaders who have studied the Sabarimala issue and SC verdict in detail will explain the party's position and the legal position. The CPM believes that making the women in the party aware of the facts in the Sabarimala issue will help to influence those in the forefront of the agitation. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, while explaining the scenario in the committee, is learnt to have said the SC revising the verdict is unlikely and soon everyone will have to be in terms with the reality of allowing women entry. While party workers need to take a cautious stand by not hurting religious sentiments, they have the duty to convey the factual positions in the case, Kodiyeri reportedly told the meeting. The party would like to send across the message that the LDF government only sought the appointment of an expert panel to study whether the women entry is feasible, while it was the Supreme Court which ordered the women entry by examining all aspects of the issue. Also, the onus on initiating any amendment to law to circumvent the SC ruling will be on the central government.
