Hill Highway works begin in Thiruvananthapuram

Parasala will also become the meeting point of the Hill Highway, Coastal Highway and National Highway 66. The preliminary works in the Parasala-Kudappanamoodu corridor of the 1,250 km Hill Highway linking Kaliyakkavila on Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Thiruvananthapuram to Mandarakkadavu in Kasaragod has commenced. The aim is to commence the second reach works also along with the Phase I works, the legislator said. The proposed Hill Highway involves development of 1,250-km road from South to North of the State extending to 13 districts. The second reach of the Hill Highway in Parasala assembly constituency will begin from Kudappanamoodu and will stretch through Kuttappu, Amboori, Vazhichal, Kallikadu and Partuthipally.

The ?105 crore works in the corridor falling in the Parasala Assembly constituency is being taken up in two phases. For the Phase I works in the Parasala-Kudappanamoodu stretch, ? 54 crore has been sanctioned. As much as 80 per cent of land acquisition for phase I had been completed. The proposed Hill Highway will have a 12 m carriageway and a width of 7.5 m with footpaths on both sides, stormwater drains, bus bays, bus shelters and utility ducts to prevent digging for laying drinking water pipes and cables of the telecom companies. Rubberised bitumen will be used for overlay of the road to give a cozy road and to ensure longevity. The corridor will have traffic signboards and destination boards as per the standards. The improvement of junctions, reconstruction of the Parasala railway overbridge and the bridge at Kallikadu has been included in the phase I works. The work in the Reach I will be completed in 10 months, C. K. Hareendran, MLA said. The second reach of the Hill Highway in Parasala assembly constituency will begin from Kudappanamoodu and will stretch through Kuttappu, Amboori, Vazhichal, Kallikadu and Partuthipally. Tender formalities for the seven works estimated to cost ?51crore had been completed. The aim is to commence the second reach works also along with the Phase I works, the legislator said. On completion of the Hill Highway, Mr. Hareendran said the face of the Parasala constituency will change as it will trigger the development of the hilly areas, help easy movement to the citizens and open more avenues for the farmers to sell their produce. Parasala will also become the meeting point of the Hill Highway, Coastal Highway and National Highway 66. The proposed Hill Highway involves development of 1,250-km road from South to North of the State extending to 13 districts. Already, Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has given the approval for ?1,426 crore for 493 kms in seven districts, including Thiruvananthapuram.
