Kerala plans Tirupati-model digital queue at Sabarimala

The digital queue and crowd management system has been successful in Tirupati. The committee will soon furnish a proposal to the government on how the system can be emulated in Sabarimala with necessary changes to suit the conditions here, top government sources said. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is thinking of emulating the Tirupati-model integrated digital queue system, which has been proven to be highly convenient for the devotees, law enforcement agencies and temple management, at Sabarimala As part of this initiative, a three-member team consisting principal secretary (PWD) G Kamala Vardhana Rao, principal secretary (devaswoms) K R Jyothilal and ADGP (administration) S Aananthakrishnan visited Tirupati to study about the digital queue and crowd management system. In addition, a few slots for those who are coming without any booking is also likely to be part of the proposal.Police have proposed the integrated digital queue system with three kinds of passes for general entry, for women and paid one for VIPs and government passes. The integrated passes would mean that it would cover all the requirements of devotees, including the transport from Nilackal to Pamba, the queue for reaching Sannidhanam and also the prasadam booking.

The digital queue and crowd management system has been successful in Tirupati. Though it may not be possible to adopt it as it is, we are thinking on how it can be implemented here," a top official said.Police have proposed that the total number of pilgrims should be limited to 80,000 per day, and through the traditional route, it should be limited to maximum of 5,000 per day. However, the idea is to keep slots for three routes main route that is through Nilackal for which a maximum of one lakh slots per day can be kept open, and a few slots for the two other routes from Erumeli and Pullumedu. In addition, a few slots for those who are coming without any booking is also likely to be part of the proposal.Police have proposed the integrated digital queue system with three kinds of passes for general entry, for women and paid one for VIPs and government passes. This is also likely to be part of the proposal by the team that visited Tirupati.The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, has been providing a wide range of digital services to the devotees, including special entry darshan, e-hundi, e-darshan, e-accommodation and e-TTD publications.The darshan can be booked online by checking the available time and slots at their conveniences along with the accommodation to the guest house. All kinds of puja bookings are also made through online, where a devotee can view the pujas available on various dates and the pujas that can be performed on a particular day of his choice.Even the donations to hundi and the donations to TTD that covers annadanam to the 70,000 pilgrims visiting per day, are accepted online ensuring transparency.The donor is even provided an IT deduction certificate along with the acknowledgement receipt when they make donations above Rs 1,000.
