Kerala cabinet approves plan to rebuild Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state cabinet, on Wednesday, approved the draft plan for rebuilding the state that was severely affected during the recent floods. Also, an advisory committee and monitoring panel have been formed to oversee the rebuilding process. Hence, a coordinated effort is required for the execution of these proposals," said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan after the cabinet meeting.Under the state cabinet, an advisory committee - headed by the chief minister - has been formed for this purpose. "Several expert plans and proposals were received for rebuilding the state. The first meeting of this advisory committee will be held on October 22.A high-level empowered committee - headed by the chief secretary - with secretaries of all departments as members will be formed.

The members of the committee are opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Union minister Alphons Kannanthanam , ministers designated by the chief minister, the chief secretary, vice-chairman of the planning board, former bureaucrat TKA Nair, former vice-chairman of state planning board KM Chandrasekhar, Baiju Raveendran (Byju's App), businessman MA Yusuffali, Dr KP Kannan, (CDS), former Hudco chairman V Suresh and UN disaster management expert Muralee Thummarukudy.The committee will provide necessary instructions and expert opinion on the projects that are to be executed in diverse sectors. The first meeting of this advisory committee will be held on October 22.A high-level empowered committee - headed by the chief secretary - with secretaries of all departments as members will be formed. This panel will act as the monitoring committee and oversee project execution.The chief minister said rebuilding projects will be done in the way other countries - which faced disasters - did.There are several models before us on how countries have rebuilt everything after a similar disaster. Hence, we will be considering their expertise. A study stated that the state will require three years to complete the rebuilding process.Vijayan said that along with the rebuilding process, all development works of major projects will be carried out. The state cannot afford delay in major projects like Kochi Metro. KPMG has offered to provide free consultancy to rebuild Kerala , he added.The government has also launched a web portal www.rebuild.kerala.gov.in for crowdfunding People will also be able to know about the projects being carried out by various departments across diverse sectors.
