“It is like a second home,” Pavisankar S gushes about his favourite space — Manaveeyam Veedhi, specifically a tea shop on this diagonal road that connects Museum-Vellayambalam road to Althara Junction. It is where Pavi, a well-known freelance visual artiste and illustrator, unwinds with his circle of friends and fellow artistes. “The tea shop is a hangout space for many denizens. For me, that is the best place to kill boredom. I always meet one or two people whom I know and the conversations set things right. This include people of all ages or creative persons, including musicians, painters, theatre practitioners, writers, actors, filmmakers...,” says Pavi. An alumnus of College of Fine Arts, Pavi says that he doesn’t know how or why the street is close to his heart. “Going there has become a sort of addiction. It is close to the house where I stayed earlier. But even though I have shifted to another place near Maruthankuzhi, I take a bus and come here to have my tea. I usually come there by 6.30 pm. The street gets crowded a little later as many people come there after their working hours to have tea or eat from the food trucks or thattukadas. And if there is any event at the nearby Tagore Theatre, Kanakakunnu or Nishagandhi, there is a sea of humanity out there,” he says. Pavi adds with a chuckle that it has little to do with the taste of the tea! Creative support He asserts that the space helps him in his work as well. “Much of my work-related planning happens when I spend time with a like-minded group,” says Pavi, who has also done art work inside many food joints in and around the city, besides illustrations for several music albums, book covers and the like. Moving on, his other favourite spaces are related to food. “I love to drive down on a two-wheeler in search of food spots. I regularly go to this eatery at Madathilkonam in Kattakkada where there is delicious porotta, chicken thoran and many ethnic eats or to Vizhinjam to explore seafood at restaurants like Ustad Hotel and Yasin Hotel. Thakkaram Idavazhi at Statue is another place I love to hang out at,” he says. Neyyattinkara, his native place, or Sasthampara, which is being promoted as a tourist spot, are other places that come on top of his list of favourite hangouts.
