KWA waives late fee for a month

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Water Authority is facing an unexpected crisis due to a glitch in its central control server located at State Data Centre at Technopark here.KWA's bill payment system is the worst-affected. The water authority used to receive around Rs 1.5crore daily through the online mode. KWA is trying to solve the issue by arranging a temporary server, sources said. Though it was informed that the online facility would be functional by Friday, consumers were not able to pay their bills .The water authority has decided to waive the late payment fee for a month. It has also put disconnection activities on hold for a month.

It has also put disconnection activities on hold for a month. The decision was taken considering the difficulty faced by consumers to pay water bills, KWA said in a statement.The KWA has already relaxed the fine for consumers in 10 flood-affected districts in the state till January 31, 2019.The existing server was purchased in 2011 for around Rs 55 lakh. Since it involves purchase of hardware component, concurrence of IT department is needed.Apart from online payment, application for new connection, disconnection, change of meter etc., are done through the site.KWA officials said that steps were taken to do the services offline and remit fee later.
