Devaswom board persuades cops to ease restrictions at Sabarimala

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore devaswom board (TDB) president A Padmakumar expressed his deep displeasure over the restrictions imposed at Sabarimala by the police without the consent of the board. Apart from this, the TDB president and the DGP will be coordinating the activities.“We had a starting trouble. In his meeting with state police chief Loknath Behra here on Sunday, the devaswom board president urged him to withdraw the restrictions imposed at Sannidhanam.“There will be no restriction for the devotees to perform ‘neyyabhishekam’. The restrictions on the devotees from Nilackal to Pamba will be relaxed gradually,” said Padmakumar.However, he made it clear that no kinds of protests will be allowed at the shrine. “I assure you that there will be no unnecessary restrictions from the police.

The time for performing this will be extended to 12 noon from 3.15am. The devotees will be allowed to camp at the hill shrine for performing this ritual,” said TDB president A Padmakumar after his meeting with the DGP.He said that there will be no restrictions for the devotees camping at the guest house at Sannidhanam during night. But the people who are camping at ‘nadappanthal’ will be sent back due to security reasons.“The people who are coming with good faith and to perform the rituals will not be restricted by the police. But those who are coming with other intentions are being sent back. The TDB will ensure a peaceful atmosphere at Sannidhanam,” Padmakumar said.He said that the people who are reaching Nilackal during night will be allowed to trek the hill such that they will be able to reach the Sannidhanam before 3am. “I assure you that there will be no unnecessary restrictions from the police. All the restrictions now imposed will be withdrawn,” said the TDB president.There will be coordination between the devaswom commissioner, executive officer at Sannidhanam and the police officer who is in-charge of the security affairs at Sannidhanam. Apart from this, the TDB president and the DGP will be coordinating the activities.“We had a starting trouble. Everything will become smooth in the coming days. The facilities at Nilackal are getting improved. The restrictions on the devotees from Nilackal to Pamba will be relaxed gradually,” said Padmakumar.However, he made it clear that no kinds of protests will be allowed at the shrine. “It will be ensured that no difficulties are faced by the devotees at the temple,” he added.The meeting between the TDB president and the DGP was held in the presence of private secretary to chief minister M V Jayarajan. TDB member K P Sankaradas also took part in the discussion.
