Flood initiative: Glasgow univ offers help to Kerala students

“Universities across Scotland, the UK and Europe offer a range of scholarships to foreign students and these are often merit-based. Thiruvananthapuram: Offers have come from abroad for youngsters in Kerala whose dreams of pursuing higher education overseas were shattered by the recent deluge. There are some for students facing hardships. The applicants will be advised on their applications by May 30, 2019.The university will also be sending one of its academic staff members to Kerala in December to work on developing institutional collaboration with regard to coping with the impact of floods in heritage sites. They should also hold an offer of a place for a postgraduate programme in any of the four university colleges and classified an international student for fee purposes.The applications should be submitted online along with supporting documents on or before April 30, 2019.

Thiruvananthapuram: Offers have come from abroad for youngsters in Kerala whose dreams of pursuing higher education overseas were shattered by the recent deluge. University of Glasgow in Scotland has announced scholarships worth £10,000 (Rs 9.17 lakh) each to four students from the state “facing challenges in progressing onto postgraduate education” owing to floods.The scholarship is available to students entering any college under the university for programmes like MSc, PG diploma, PG certificate, MLitt and MBA.“Following the devastating floods in Kerala this year, the university is keen to ensure those affected still have the opportunity to pursue their education overseas,” a spokesperson said. “Universities across Scotland, the UK and Europe offer a range of scholarships to foreign students and these are often merit-based. There are some for students facing hardships. This particular scholarship is a new initiative, and we have already got a number of enquiries,” she said.The university, which has students from across India, has got applicants for the 2019 entry from Kerala as well.To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant should demonstrate academic excellence and achieve grades equivalent to a UK 2:1 Hons or better. They should also hold an offer of a place for a postgraduate programme in any of the four university colleges and classified an international student for fee purposes.The applications should be submitted online along with supporting documents on or before April 30, 2019. The applicants will be advised on their applications by May 30, 2019.The university will also be sending one of its academic staff members to Kerala in December to work on developing institutional collaboration with regard to coping with the impact of floods in heritage sites.
