Thiruvananthapuram: The city corporation has launched a new mobile app integrating various services mainly focusing on waste management . Titled Smart Trivandrum, the app was launched by mayor V K Prasanth here on Monday.Residents can get updates on dry waste collection drives as per the collection calendar, locations of material recovery facilities and aerobic bins where residents can hand over different kinds of waste on a periodic basis. It will also have options to report open dumping of waste by clicking and uploading pictures. Those who report such violations can keep receipts on their app and can avail rewards being offered by civic body.“The app will also enable push notifications on various aspects of waste management; disposal, transportation and collection. The corporation is also planning to integrate tax collection and issuance of receipts with the mobile app,” said a corporation official.The civic body has been organizing dry waste collection drives for the past two years and although dry waste collection calendar was issued by civic body many residents often find it difficult to track the drives. “Once you download the app, all important communications will appear as notifications on this app. You can also keep a track of your disposal history,” officials said.The civic body has facilitated collection of plastic waste at all aerobic bins units and materials recovery facilities in addition to special collection drives. The app will give exact location of recovery facilities in proximity to the place where a resident lives and waste can be handed over to designated staff employed at the centres.The app is available on play store and can be downloaded from IOS app store within a week. Those who report illegal waste dumping through the app will be eligible for rewards. Birth and death certificates can also be downloaded using this app. Links for building permits, social security pension are also available on Smart Trivandrum app. Residents associations can register using this app and registration number would be immediately made available to associations.
