Thiruvananthapuram: A c-section performed on a home-bred pug at government multi-specialty veterinary hospital, Peroorkada, triggered a row after the owner approached the chief minister’s office (CMO) with allegations of medical negligence. But, hospital authorities refuted his allegation saying that the owner was cooking up false tales after manhandling one of the doctors at the veterinary hospital.Ajin A – PWD contractor from Uchakkada near Vizhinjam who owns a pair of pugs – filed complaints with animal husbandry department (AHD), AHD minister and CMO saying that his pug delivered a dead foetus at home after undergoing c-section at hospital on Friday 15 and that action should be taken against the doctor.But, hospital authorities said an ultrasound scan on the pug had shown four puppies. Three live puppies and a dead foetus were delivered at the hospital. Things got heated when Ajin reportedly demanded the remaining medicine and materials he had purchased for the surgery. The doctor, who performed the surgery, told him that everything was used during the procedure. This led to an altercation and one of the doctors was reportedly manhandled by Ajin and his friend. The doctor filed a complaint against him at Peroorkada police station.“He manhandled our staff. Later, we had a talk and decided to withdraw the complaint. The next day he started spreading false messages on social media alleging medical negligence. We did a thorough job and it was not possible for the pug – which had undergone c-section – to deliver again without hurting itself. Sutures could snap endanger the animal. But, no such thing happened,” said deputy director, multi-specialty veterinary hospital, Dr G R Harikrishnakumar.Ajin said that he was asked to purchase medicines and stuff required for surgery at the hospital. “After delivery, we had taken the pug home. She showed signs of discomfort in the car. Later at home she delivered a dead foetus,” claimed Ajin who added that mother pug was in good shape.Hospital authorities said Ajin had first taken the pug to another vet, who referred the animal to the multi-specialty veterinary hospital. “We understand that there were two dead fetuses. When the pug was brought here, we subjected her to scan and immediately decided to do a surgery. We had checked the animal thoroughly and there was no way we could have missed a puppy. He then went back and claimed that the pug delivered again, which is illogical,” said a vet.
