Green protocol for LS polls: Nine member squad formed to monitor implementation

KOZHIKODE: A nine member committee has been formed in the district to implement green protocol in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections The committee will monitor if any political party or independent candidate is using single use plastic as election campaign material. The plan will implement the green protocol at the grass root level and ensure a plastic free election campaign.The decision to form the monitoring committee was taken at a meeting convened by district collector Sambasiva Rao at collectorate conference hall, on Saturday.As the Kerala high court has already banned the use of flex for election campaign, the committee will keep any eye on whether the political parties are using flex boards for campaign purpose. The use of plastic flags for campaign will also be monitored as part of green protocol.Representatives of various political parties and officials of various government departments, coordinators of the Green Kerala Mission and Sanitation Mission also attended the meeting chaired by district collector Sambasiva Rao.The Election Commission (EC) had earlier made it clear that the candidates would have to bear the cost of the waste generated for their campaign.The district collector has directed the sanitation mission to start proper communication in panchayat levels to educate the campaigners about the need to avoid plastic and flex materials.
