Thiruvananthapuram: Budding environmental enthusiasts from L'ecole Chempaka Serene Valley who revived a water spring in their campus won the Wipro Earthian Award The students received Wipro Earthian Award 2018 from Wipro chairman Azim Premji at a function held at Wipro campus, Bengaluru.The team of students from class VII to IX led by guide Rajeev R, who is the chemistry teacher at the school, chose sustainability of water as the topic of the project. The other topic was biodiversity. After the selection of topic, they searched for water resource which they could conserve.“It was the gardener working in the school, who told us about the water spring near the garden, while we were searching for the project. And we decided to utilise the water for a useful purpose and sought help from WWF. After visiting the spot, the WWF representative informed us that the water spring is surrounded by plants of rare species found in Ponmudi,” said Rajeev. “Now the water from the spring is used for gardening purposes,” he added.The school plans to entrust the next batch of students with the responsibility of protecting the water source.
